New Business Services

Posted By Admin on December 23, 2007 @ 1:29 pm

I learned a few new things today.  My day started off as normal with unplugging my mobile phone from the wall and turning it on.  Now, that may seem a bit weird for some of you, but my business phone is only on during business hours, and if there is something important that someone needs, they can leave a message.

As I was turning on the phone I was looking at the screen.  Ever since I bought the phone, it has shown me new products or services offered by many companies.  After I bought it, I figured out that one of the SIM applications on the phone was designed to show ads to me when I turned it on.  Instead of taking it back, I have taken the attitude that I can learn something new from my phone everyday.

Today I learned about a local company that specializes in card encoding for gift cards.  On the phone, their rates were displayed and they were quite reasonable.  The best selling feature was the chip card readers that they offered that would allow your customer to use their gift cards while shopping online if they installed the reader in their computer.  Talk about cool!

I should be getting back to work, but it will be interesting to see what new thing I can learn about tomorrow when I turn my phone on.

I Believe in Crocs

Posted By Twyla on @ 11:40 am

I think everyone has heard about Croc shoes. They are those little rubber shoes with holes that look like they belong in the garden. Looks can be quite deceiving though, as they really are comfortable. I got a pair last summer and expect that I will get another pair this year.

I loved my Crocs and I practically lived in them when I wasn’t inside the house. The only time I wore any other shoes is when I went jogging. I also loved that they were available in so many different colors. I loved it, but I still bought black, because that is just what I do.

I was doubly impressed the other day when I was told about All Terrain Crocs. Apparently they are good for jogging in. I am definitely going to have to check that out. It is only a few months until spring and I am almost ready to go and do my Croc shop. Maybe I will try something other than black this year. But, then again, probably not!

Investing South of the Border

Posted By Admin on December 22, 2007 @ 1:57 pm

With the strength of the Canadian dollar, many Canadians are investing south of the border in the United States.  There are quite a few bargains to be found down there especially with the current mortgage problems.

Just this week I contacted an Asheville real estate firm to see what kinds of deals were available.  I picked Asheville, NC because I have an uncle down there that could keep an eye on things for me.  The real estate agent suggested I look at Asheville Condos as they were on sale at a discount and I could get a good return on investment when I rented them out.

He was also kind enough to direct me to a website that had real estate for sale in Asheville.  There I could find deals at any time of the day, and contact him if I did find one I wanted to buy.

So, all you fellow Canadians out there, take a look at the Asheville real estate market – and put your money to work for you.

The Terrible, Awful, No Good, Extremely Bad Day

Posted By Twyla on December 21, 2007 @ 3:47 pm

I was so angry the other day when my studded leather belt broke. I loved this belt more than any other article of clothing I own. I was actually heartbroken because I have had it for three years and I knew I wouldn’t be able to find one like it again. This was just the start to my very bad day.

On the way out the door to school, I broke the zipper on my backpack and had to go in and find another bag to put my books in. This made me late for school and made my mood even fouler.

After school, I was about to start my homework, when I knocked over a glass of orange juice right onto my mom’s antique rug. I can’t explain how I felt at that point because we were, under no circumstances, to have food or drinks around that rug. I cleaned it up and told her what had happened. She forgave me and reassured me that I couldn’t have a day that bad twice in one year. I sure hope she’s right.

Not Getting Married By Elvis

Posted By Twyla on @ 12:54 pm

I am planning on getting married in Las Vegas this coming Spring. We are not eloping and our families will all be invited, but I have always wanted the Vegas wedding. When we started talking about it, we were told by a friend about many Las Vegas hotel discounts available at certain times, and so that is how we chose the date. We are planning on having the actual ceremony and the reception at Treasure Island and we went down there last weekend to talk to them and start to set some things up.

We were happy to find out about the various Treasure Island discounts that are offered during that time of the year. They were really nice and very accommodating and offered to help with anything they could to help the wedding go really smoothly. We ended up hiring their in-house wedding coordinator, who will make sure that everything gets done and she will be in constant communication with us to make sure everything is as we want it.

We were also given a list of various Treasure Island offer codes to give out to our guests, so they can save some money on their stay at the hotel. I am sure the wedding will be perfect and I am now just sitting back and waiting for it to all fall into place.

Financing Home Renovations

Posted By Admin on December 19, 2007 @ 12:51 pm

A few years ago, we had some money problems.  My wife was out of a job and our bills and credit card payments were piling up.  Stressed out, we figured that our only option was to go bankrupt.  We were using cash advances to pay our bills, and pledging our future paychecks to pay what needed to be paid today.  We were on a sinking ship with no way out.

It was at that point we were able to get into a debt consolidation program.  They were able to negotiate a better, lower monthly payment for us enabling us to get back on track.  If we had not enrolled in this program we would have gone bankrupt.

I am happy we didn’t have to, because we are now looking at home improvement loans to finance some much needed renovations to our home.  Things are falling apart, and the linoleum is peeling in the kitchen.  We will have to wait until the new year to get one, but when we are done the renovations, our home will be nice again.  I just can’t wait.

Outsourcing To Maximize Profits, and Minimize Office Space

Posted By Admin on December 17, 2007 @ 8:26 pm

There are many things to consider when operating a business.  There are many ways you can make money and many ways to spend it.  In an effort to tackle these challenges, consider the following statement:

Outsource to maximize profits and minimize office space.

Now, this takes care of the two major goals of a business: maximizing profits and minimizing expenses.  Some ways that you can accomplish these goals are through human resources department outsourcing (think training, payroll, benefits and employee relations), utilizing recruitment firms to screen and hire employees, and contract out ecommerce website design needs (in the case of a business that operates on the web) instead of doing it in house.

By minimizing the number of on hand staff, the need for office space will decrease.  Yet, at the same time, your organization will be able to function as a fully staffed organization thanks to your outsourcing efforts.

There are also many smaller organizations that do the same sales volumes of larger companies, but utilize outsourcing to leverage their time and free themselves up to focus on the business.  Before you hire more employees, consider outsourcing as an alternative.

Site Promotion Using Web Directories

Posted By Admin on @ 7:24 pm

If you own a website, you know that there are many different ways to promote your site.  You can submit it to the major search engines, write articles, blog about it, and social bookmark it.  But one of the more effective, but often overlooked methods should be an essential part of your website promotion strategy: directory submission.

What is a web directory?  Well, you can think of it like a search engine where a human has decided that the sites listed there are of some value.  Usually, you can find more relevant results if you make a search compared to traditional search engines.

Most people submit their sites to free directories but that takes a lot of time.  For those of you that have the time, that is great, but for the rest of us, thankfully there are directory submission services available.

Quite often free directory submission services are very inexpensive and definitely worth the money.  It is a great way to get your sites indexed and help the ranking for your site.  Just be sure that they allow you to vary your title and descriptions for your listings so you will not be penalized for duplicate listings by the search engines.

So, make web directories one of the tools that you use to promote your sites.

Learning to be a Better Parent

Posted By Admin on @ 6:50 pm

In a few short weeks we are expecting a new baby.  There has been a lot of hustle and bustle around our house in expectation of our new child.  Sure it isn’t our first one, but an addition to our household is always an exciting thing.

I have been reading parenting magazines for awhile now to keep abreast of current trends in parenting.  An article I read recently scared me a little when it talked about baby bedding and clothing.  You see, the article talked about all the chemicals and heavy metals store bought baby clothes come in contact with and how they could have an adverse effect on a child’s health.

But there was a way to avoid the hazards of mass produced clothing.  You see, there are many companies that provide organic baby clothing and organic baby bedding at a reasonable price.  These clothes have not come in contact with hazardous materials and are free from dyes.

Another benefit to organic baby clothes is that children with allergies seem to do better in them.  Less rashes, and less allergic reactions are never a bad thing.

With what I have learned, my choice is clear – I must get organic clothing for my new baby.  As a parent, I want to give my children as many opportunities as possible – and picking health clothing and bedding is a good start.

Make Money Online with HYIPs

Posted By Admin on December 16, 2007 @ 9:45 pm

Most people have their own ideas on how to make money online.  Quite often if you ask someone how to make money online, they will tell you to sell something on Ebay, build a website, or write an e-book.  But there are quite a few overlooked methods for making money online – the one I want to talk to you about today is investing.

Now, I am not talking about traditional investments like stocks or bonds.  No, today I want to talk about high yield investment programs (HYIP).  HYIP are investments that offer incredible (sometimes crazy) returns with some element of risk.  Returns of 30% or more per month are not uncommon.

I do want to caution you to not get too excited.  While there are a few really good investment programs out there, there are quite a few scams as well.  Don’t invest your life savings and be sure to do your due diligence just like a traditional investment.  I have personally made quite a bit of money using HYIPs but I have lost some as well.  Just take your time and you’ll find the good ones – you’ll know when you do.
