Wise Man

Posted By Twyla on August 9, 2008 @ 2:29 pm

I was curious and asked my dad’s friend about classic car insurance. I wanted to know if it cost more or less to insure a classic car than it does to insure a new one. He told me that it all depended upon who you bought your insurance through.

When he had his car ready for the road, he was set on getting a really cheap car insurance rate. He told me that if you looked hard enough and knew how to haggle that you could get a good rate on just about anything.

I really took his advice to heart and I was so thankful that I had talked to him about it. I decided that it was time that I got cheap auto insurance, so I shopped around and when I found the best deal, I haggled and ended up getting an even better deal. It pays to talk to older people because they really are wise.

Not Exactly What I Asked for

Sometimes it amazes me how you can explain something to someone and though you are expecting one outcome, it ends up being completely different than what you thought it would be.

I recently experienced a great example of this when I asked my wife to go buy mens cufflinks for me at a store downtown.  Though I really didn’t buy a lot of cufflinks, the store was having a sale on vintage cufflinks and there were a couple of them that I had my heart set on.

But, during the hours of the sale I had to be at work, so I sent my wife instead.  I gave her explicit instructions of which ones that I was looking for, confirmed that she understood what I had said, and put my faith in her that she would come back home with my cufflinks in hand.

When I got home from work and rushed to open the box the cufflinks that she had bought me, I couldn’t keep the anticipation and excitement inside.  As I opened the box and peered inside it I realized that there is something very wrong.

Inside the box there were photo cufflinks.  What made it even worse was that it just wasn’t any old photo, but I would be wearing pictures of Mr. Bean on each arm.  I stood there in shock and horror looking at what my wife bought me.

I couldn’t help but hear laughter coming from the other side of the room and I realized that my wife had played a big joke on me.  She handed over the cufflinks that I originally wanted and then she wiped away the tears from all the laughing off of her face.

Man, I love my wife.

I Received a Starter Business Package in the Mail

Posted By Admin on August 7, 2008 @ 1:44 am

I recently attended a seminar on starting your own business and it was very educational.  You see, I have been considering starting up my own business on the side with hopes that it will be able to replace my full-time income in the next couple of years.  But, having never started a business before, I knew that attending the workshop would be invaluable in learning what is involved in running my own business.

It is only been a couple of days since the seminar, but I have received a package in the mail this morning full of business forms and other goodies that will help me take the steps I need in establishing my business.  Some examples of the forms I did receive included company registers, some sample HR policies, and forms for new hires.

Though these resources will be very helpful, they also remind me that I’m way out of my league.  I think I will have to find a mentor that has created businesses before and would be willing to share their knowledge with me.  By drawing on their experience, I will be able to ensure that I minimize the number of mistakes I make in creating my own business.

Safe Chatting Community

One of the things that I don’t like about the Internet is that lots of communities where you want to chat display your private information publicly.  Now, I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to have a ton of people spamming me and trying to sell me on their product or site.

But, I have found a jewel of a site that not only keeps the spamming to a minimum, but your privacy is assured.  In fact, if they have a problem with a member spamming or harassing others, they immediately ban them.

So, if you like to chat online, do it securely at CrushorFlush.com.

Planning Our New Yard

Posted By Admin on August 5, 2008 @ 7:54 pm

Since we purchased our first home this year, there have been many things that we have needed to learn.  Some of these things we have taken for granted such as changing the furnace filter, or considering how landscaping designs can affect your yard.

This has meant that we have done a lot of reading in terms of learning how to take care of our new home.  I even received a book on landscaping design ideas from my wife for my birthday.  At the time, I thought that it wasn’t a good gift, but after reading the book, my thoughts on it changed.

In fact, I am currently reading the section on plant selection and right now I am learning about lantana care.  As it turns out, we have some in our yard and it is a good idea to know how to take care of them.

After I am done the book, my wife and I will sit down and plan out the layout of the yard.  Though we won’t have time to take care of it this year, we will be ready for spring next year.
