The Super Nintendo, which is sometimes shortened as SNES, was the second generation game console made by Nintendo. During it time, it was highly popular and the top selling 16-bit console. The SNES set a standard above and beyond every other game system at the time. It had high level graphics for a 16-bit console. The Super NES game system is said to have some of the best games ever. I’ve put together a list of my favorite SNES games that I consider to be the top 10.
Number 10:Donkey Kong Country – This fun game was a late release for the Super Nintendo, but still helped define the 16-bit era. Donkey Kong introduced a fun play style that remained popular well into the Playstation era. It is know for its advanced 3D side scroller play system. A fun game worth buying for any SNES lover.
Number 9: Final Fantasy III – Finall Fantasy is consider to be one of the best RPG game series of all times. It includes a ton of games on many different consoles. Final Fantasy III continued the series on the SNES before it moved onto the new 3D play modle on the Playstation. The game used a turn based fighting system, which a classic fighting system in RPGs.
Number 8: Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars – This is a super fun RPG game that mixes traditional RPG elements, like Final Fantasy, and adds in some Mario spice. A great RPG that is a ton of fun to play.
Number 7: Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong’s Quest – A solid game that has earned its spot as on of the best SNES games. The second Donkey Kong game continues the reputation set in the first Donkey Kong Country. A solid game that has an even better design than the first DKC.
Number 6: Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island – This game reinvented the Super Mario series on the SNES game system. This super fun game follows Yoshi as he tries to reconnect Mario with his friend and partner Luigi. A super fun SNES game.
Number 5: Mega Man X – This is a classic Nintendo series. It had six games on the original NES console. Its move to the SNES brings an extremely entertaining series to the SNES. It retains many of the classic elements from the series, but brings many new and advanced elements. Not only is Mega Man X a great game, so are the other three Mega Man games for the Super Nintendo.
Number 4: Secret of Mana – If you like RPG games, than you must play Secret of Mana. The thing I love is that it uses an action RPG play style instead of the turn based system. This is a super fun multi-player game that even video game fanatic should play.
Number 3: Super Metroid – Super Metroid needs to be near the top on almost any list. The NES version was great, and so is the SNES Metroid. The game play is very similar to the original, but has been approached. Its has non-linear game play, but unlike the original, they add a map to make things easier. A must play game for anyone interested in the Super Nintendo.
Number 2: Chrono Trigger – Who doesn’t love Chrono Trigger? This is one of the greatest RPG games of all times. It has a total of 14 different endings, what else can I say? Amazing for the SNES.
Number 1: The Legend of Zelda: I love the game more than any other game on the SNES and I even consider it my favorite game ever. The unique, but simple, design creates a massive universe to be explored my Link as he tries to rescue Zelda.
