I sure get a lot of different types of junk mail in my mailbox (my real life one). Now, most of the flyers I get end up getting recycled, but there was one today that caught my eye - and I would like to share what I read with you.
The title is what got me to read the pamphlet: "Parent Involvement: The Crisis our Children Face." Now it sounded kind of gloomy, but I wanted to know what it was about.
Now as I was reading the pamphlet, the message was clear - due to the busier lifestyles that we are living parent involvement in education has declined over the past twenty years, resulting in a lower level of education for our children. Now this doesn’t just mean lower grades in school, but our children are missing out on learning other life skills because of our choices with what we do with our time.
There has also been a decline in parent involvement in schools over the past twenty years. This decline in involvement has meant that teachers have less individual time with the children - increasing the gap between the kids that don’t need help in school and those that too. It follows the old adage that you can only go as slow as your slowest member - so there are times where the education level is not where it should be.
Whoa - I didn’t really have any idea that this was going on. But now that I stop and think about it - it makes sense. So for those of you that are parents listen up - get involved with your child’s life - they need you!
As a parent your life seems to speed up when you have kids. You notice time flying by even faster once they are in school. Seems like it was only yesterday that my daughter Courtney was born - but now she is looking for a job. She asked if I could help her out with her resume.
Well, to be honest, I don’t really have the foggiest idea about how to write a resume. It has been years since I have had a "real job" and even longer since I was looking for work. The great thing about me though is if I don’t know the answer, I sure know how to find it.
So I went online to find some good resume writing tips. While in the process of trying to find tips, I did find a online resume writer. Now, that would save me(and my daughter) time from writing the resume, and chances are that they will prepare a more professional product than we ever could.
I offered to pay for the resume writing for her - so we submitted the information and now we are waiting. I can’t wait to see what the finished product looks like - the samples on their website looked really good.
The other day I was using a search engine to find some coloring pages with which to make paper piecing patterns for my scrapbook. I came across an interesting site called thedollpalace.com.
The site contained cartoon dolls and dress-up games with which to create avatars. I started playing with these highly amusing little people. You should see the one I did of my dad. It was roll-on-the-floor, laugh out loud funny.
I got a little bit carried away because I realized I had been sitting at the computer, playing on a "childrens" website for over an hour. I thought I had better get back to the task at hand. I looked into their coloring pages and was again pleasantly surprised. There were pictures of just about everything imagineable. I knew I had hit the jackpot for my scrapbooking paper piecing patterns. I proceeded to print what I needed and bookmarked the site.
The only downfall I see in the future is time management while on the site. Time gets away when you are playing. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. But be sure to check out thedollpalace.com.
