Recently a real estate tycoon in off of the east coast purchased a tiny island which he intends to develop into a vacation resort. The developer has been accessing the property for surveying purposes and it was decided that the island would house a small hotel, a golf course and there would be brick retaining walls all around the property to serve as a visual enhancement. After the contractor surveyed the property the owner was presented with another daunting task he hadn’t quite prepared for, how was he going to get all the materials from the mainland to the island? Also another task, how would he get the guests onto the island? The solution was quite simple; he needed to buy some pontoon boats. This would solve his dilemma and after the pontoon boats were done transporting the necessary building materials, he could hire staff to transport the guests on them as well, he had found dual purposes for purchasing pontoon boats.
He went into town the following day and located a boating dealer; there he was able to immediately secure the purchase of three pontoon boats. He ordered a larger, more elaborate pontoon boat to be delivered at a later date for guest transportation. The construction pontoons were basic models equipped with fourteen feet of open working space, which is just what the contractors needed when they had to build the rock retaining walls that were to surround the property. The pontoon boats were open and provided a platform for work space as well as stability. Construction began two weeks ago on the retaining walls, and the crew is working quickly and efficiently to try and complete all the work on a timely basis.
The workers found the pontoons especially helpful when they needed to berth in shallow waters, if they had any other type of boat, this wouldn’t be possible. But with the pontoon boats greater versatility, the workers are able to get where they need to go around the island with relative ease. The contractors are able to lay out their blueprints and work directly from the deck of the boat without fear of tipping over or falling into the water because of an unstable working platform. The pontoon boats are serving all of their needs quite well, the contractors are so impressed by the strength and durability of the pontoon boats that they are going to invest in a small fleet of pontoon boats to use the next time they receive a contract for marine construction.
The completion of the island project was done within the time frame set. Our businessman was so happy and impressed with this crew that he gave them a wonderful bonus, in thanks of a job well done. With the beautiful rock wall surrounding the resort, the owner was pleased with his investment. He was also happy with his pontoon boats. Without them the materials being transported to the island would have been a big headache. This is the time where pontoon boats are being used more for work projects than recreation. It is the best of both worlds, work and recreation. Many uses of pontoons are starting to be noticed by all.
Reducing energy costs is of course, a world-wide issue that in effect is going to mean governments around the world will be under pressure to cease the production of older inefficient light bulbs.
Interest in Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) has dramatically increased recently, even though they have been available for many years.
This is due to the negative aspects of more conventional light bulbs with regards to environmental issues.
Huge investments have been made by the large lamp manufacturing companies in order to improve the overall quality of their energy saving lights.
The new ranges of CFL’s have longer lifespans, do no flicker and work just as well through a large variety of room temperatures.
These energy efficient light bulbs of course work more effectively in every aspect of a light bulb, and are easier on the environment as well.
Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) can now be used for pretty much any kind of commercial or domestic lighting. Along with the savings you will make on not only energy costs, but maintenance as well, it’s pretty plain to see that CFLs will become the standard source of lighting very soon.
The New York Rangers acquired Blair Betts in the 2005-06 NHL Hockey season and he has been with them, centering on the defensive 4th line. He is one of the New York Rangers most consistent face-off men winning a more than losing them.
The New York Post wrote that Blair Betts and his teammate, Sjostrom, could be the best penalty kill tandem in Rangers history and they had a franchise high of 87.6 percent. He has also been declared one of the most underrated players in the league.
Having played for the Calgary Flames since 1998, before joining the New York Rangers, this Canadian born ice hockey player weighs 210 pounds at 6 feet 3 inches. His pro career started in 2001 and he has been a consistent defensive center.
The New York Rangers, however, have not done so well. They are going through their highest losing streak, so it may be hard to determine where some of the praise for Blair Betts is translating into winning games for the team.
Betts has spent some time on the sidelines due to injuries, which have included a broken left orbital in May 2008, followed by an upper body injury late in the year. In the time he’s been in the rink, however, he has managed to score three goals and five points in the 28 games he has played in the season. Betts has also suffered from knee, foot and face injuries as a Ranger.
As everyone knows, NHL play is rough and injuries are relatively common, particularly in defensive players. Only 28, Betts has seen plenty of the ice since he began playing with the Calgary Flames back in 1998.
Betts started playing hockey even before this, of course. He got his start with the Western Hockey League’s Prince George Cougars, with whom he played from 1996 until being taken by the Calgary Flames in the 1998 NHL draft. Hockey can really take its toll on an athlete, with many wondering if Betts’ health is beginning to suffer as a result of his time in the sport.
In the 2005-06 NHL hockey season, he scored eight goals and two assists with the New York Rangers. Since that time, he has been used primarily on special teams and has done well in penalty killing and winning face-offs.
In his NHL career, Betts has racked up 27 goals and 18 assists, mostly while playing for the New York Rangers. The Rangers are going through tough times at the moment - and his being sidelined for injuries is probably not helping matters any. However, many believe that the Rangers have a great defensive line; but it is their offense which is not up to snuff.
A lot of fans and sportswriters alike think that the Rangers are at the bottom of the heap right now because they have lost confidence in their abilities and have failed to come together as a team. Maybe Betts’ defensive playing skills can help get the Rangers back in the game - but most think that the team’s management really bears the blame for the team’s poor performance. Blair Betts is a talented athlete who many fans believe would be better off seeking greener pastures elsewhere.

North Carolina is no stranger to biking trails. There are many areas of the state that seem dedicated to the sport. Bryson City is no exception. Among some of the best are Thompson Loop and Mouse Branch. There are a few things to be aware of here. Bikes are only welcomed on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and there is a fee to ride these trails. If you are a regular, you can get a season pass for fifteen bucks. Thompson Loop is a throwback to the kind of bike riding you did as a kid. With steep climbs and smooth banked curves, you can relive the days when helmets were not legalized. Thompson Loop is just shy of 8 miles long and sure to give you your money’s worth.
Mouse Branch is almost 7 miles long and has fewer climbs but some pretty fast downhills. There is a scenic overlook that makes a great resting spot. The southside trail used to be called Tour de Dump but is now redone and winning biker over everyday. It is lightly used so it’s a great place to practice and is nice and simple for beginners.
These trails are just the tip of the iceberg of the biking that the mid-atlantic states have to offer. If you are planning to do some cheaper traveling this year, these trails, and many others in the mid-atlantic region await you and your bike. Enjoy them.
Beer is one of the oldest beverages in the world. There are records of the Sumerians, the earliest known civilization, brewing and drinking beer. The art of homebrewing and its recipes were perfected during the centuries, as households were brewing their own beer, using homebrew supplies from their gardens or farms.
As people moved into cities, household beer production began to decline. It is only in the recent years homebrewing once again became popular thanks to the thousands of hobbyists. Quite of few of which even grew their hobby into a business.
Having an aura of ancient times with a touch of mystery, each recipe tells its own story, it is no wonder that brewing your own beer has a lot of appeal to people on a search of a hobby. Of course, it also helps if you like to drink beer as well.
As a hobby, the main advantage of homebrewing is that the learning curve is not too steep. There are beginner-level recipes that can get you brewing great quality beer on your first try. In most cases, along with your first homebrewing kit you will receive enough supplies for a few batches to get you started.
For the beginner or in case youre not certain about this hobby, buy one of the entry level starter kits. The cost of such kits is very reasonable, starting at as low as $39US to a more advanced starter kits for $100US and up.
When you impress your relatives and friends with your first few batches of beer, you will want to try other recipes and techniques. This can be done by browsing the free and tried recipes on the net or purchasing a good recipe book. You can always improvise and create your own beer by substituting one ingredient with another.
The best news are that with the growth of this hobby, homebrew supplies become cheaper than they have ever been. This makes this hobby a lot more affordable. With the increased popularity you will also be able to find a suitable vendor that will ship everything to your door, and offer special bonuses, as they know the competition is high. This is a great opportunity to give this hobby a try.

Getting yourself a sports equipment or gear always needs scrutinizing especially if the equipment or gear plays a major role in your performance. In the case of water sports and in particular, getting yourself a wetsuit, your choice may depend largely on what you are looking for in your suit. You may just want to have that top of the line wetsuit, or you can check for the quality and material that you prefer without having to pay too much for it.
Especially if you are looking for a triathlon wetsuit or scuba diving wetsuit which requires some special features, you should check the quality and the materials that make up your wetsuit so you will know what fits you.
Among the most important considerations that you need to keep in mind when getting a wetsuit for your sport is flexibility, warmth and comfort. The price as well as the style could also be a factor, considering wetsuits are quite expensive. Below are some of the basics when it comes to wetsuit quality.
Different manufacturers use a flexible rubber called neoprene as the main material in the making of the wetsuit. However, this material can be classified further into their level of flexibility and comfort. This makes wetsuits different in terms of their flexibility, comfort and warmth, although they are all largely made of neoprene.
The most flexible neoprene is called the super stretch neoprene. It is also easier to determine the quality and flexibility of your wetsuit when it comes to super stretch neoprene as it is determined by the percentage used in the wetsuit. A wetsuit could have 30%, 60% or 100 % super stretch neoprene on it.
This means that the higher the percentage, the more flexible the suit. Wetsuits are often made from different types of neoprene material to suit your needs depending on the water sport you are into, your skills, and of course, your budget.
If you are a beginner or if you want a wetsuit that will not cost you much, you can start with a 10% super stretch wetsuit or one with 30% super stretch material. In these cases, super stretch neoprene panels are usually placed in parts that require more flexibility like the arms, shoulders or at the back and knee areas.
For more experienced users, a 60% super stretch or a 100% super stretch wetsuit can be ideal although the choice largely depends on your budget.
For added comfort, warmth and flexibility, other wetsuits often have other materials incorporated on it. These may include lycra, spandex and Merino wool.

Sokaku Takeda, fifty-two years of age, settled back into the steaming, hot water. Sighing…he considered his position. He had been called into this wilderness town two weeks previous, but so far nothing had happened.
Where were all the brutal criminals who ran the smuggling and the gambling operations? There was lots of evidence of slave labor operations, but all he had seen so far were a pair of skinny tramps who had trailed him from a distance. Where were the gangs of thugs that burned police stations and terrified the constabulary so much that they had called for his sword?
Where were these–CRASH! The door to the bath house banged open and six thugs barged into the room. They held their swords in the ready position and advanced around the edge of the large bath.
At the sight of these thugs Sokaku scrambled from the water. The only thing near him was a towel, and he snatched it up and looked at it. A towel, well, in his hands it would be more than a towel, it would be deadly weapon!
“We’re going to teach you some manners now,” snarled the leader of the gangsters, and he lifted his sword high. The gangsters began to edge forward then, and the air was filled with their snarled insults and they made dire predictions of what they were about to do to him. It was obvious that they were trying to surround him so they could rush him en masse and kill him.
Interestingly, the old man only had a towel, but no one was willing to take a chance with a samurai with a reputation like his. They were not samurai, after all, and they knew that he had killed dozens of skilled samurai. They knew that their beat chance was to rush him from all sides at the same time.
“Dogs teaching people manners, eh?” Twisting the towel to make it more effective, Sokaku glared at the gangsters. Moving forward, he dropped the tip of the towel into the pool.
Giving a fierce scream, one of the thugs, rushing forward. Sokaku sidestepped, keeping a sure footing on the slippery surface, and snapped the towel. Crack–and the thug fell to the floor and grabbed his ribs in agony.
Two thugs glanced at each other, then they jumped forward. Crack! Whack!
Like a wraith Sokaku sidestepped, and he flicked his towel like lightening. Whack! Crack!
Five of the gangsters lay on the floor now, moaning and holding their cracked ribs, or entirely unconscious. The sixth gangster, seeing the way of the wind, dropped his sword and dashed out of the bath house. Behind him, Sokaku Takeda tossed the towel to the side and began dressing.
